As part of UNICEF’s Child Protection Mechanism project – a project engaging CID’s communications’ team together with its community development consultants for the past year – CID organized a series of events to raise awareness about the amendments to the child protection law issued in 2008. Targeting key media persons, the first event took place in Cairo in July and was an eye-opener on issues such as child’s rights, children at risk, and child protection committees.
The second event was held at the conference center at the Bibliotheca Alexandria and targeted members of child protection committees at the governorate level. Attendees included top management of NGOs active in the field, heads of local popular councils, and other opinion leaders in respective governorates. The event included a presentation to orient policy-makers and committee members on the procedural manual developed by CID, which provides committee members with detailed guidelines and tools to monitor, study, analyze, and intervene in children-at-risk cases.
